Masters of the Universe

It was 1981 and a new wave of cartoons was about to hit our TV screens. We had to wait till 1983, until then kids and adults were fed in drips of muscular figures not following the small scrawny star wars figures that were already creating toy collecting folk lore. These muscular figures were the Masters of The Universe line. It revolved around a world of Eternia where a Prince had an alter ego known as He-Man. He would battle the evil forces of Skeletor and the Horde. Unlike what we see today with toy lines where a Media Product is made and a toy line spins off in its footsteps, this was a reverse process......

The MOTU figures were created and released in small waves and a comic was included with some sets to give background and lore of the toy universe. In the year 1983 a company called FILMATION got the rights and vwala, a cartoon was born that would become part of  80s history.

As ground breaking as this was regarding a direct toy line being promoted by a cartoon for kids, it created further controversy. It was the first cartoon to show actual fight scenes between human characters. The scenes were more wrestling moves but still it was controversial for its time.

Due to the boundaries it was breaking  a moral of the episode was included to offset this and keep the conservative world at peace.

The cartoon ran for almost 3 years. It continued in a series two style. She-Ra Princess of Power was the name of this new series. The two worlds crossed over and integrated at times. It also introduced a new threat to the universe HORDAK.....
